The world cannot receive the Holy Spirit because of its unbelief, but it can see what He does in the
life of believers (1 Corinthians 2:14). As believers we are members of Christâ??s body, the church, and
the Holy Spirit came to empower the church to witness to Jesus Christ. The world will not read the Bible
so they must read our lives (1 Corinthians 1:18). So the Holy Spirit works through the church in reaching
the lost world. But not everyone responds to the witness of the Spirit to Christ. And here we have to be
careful. The Scriptures remind us that the Holy Spirit is like the wind "we don't know where it comes
from or where it is going" (John 3:8). But just as we can see the effects of the wind, we can see the effects of the Spirit’s presence
when He appears in people’s lives.
